How The Lifetime Story Started

Back in 2005, I interviewed my mother and aunt to capture some of the stories they would tell at holiday gatherings. I knew they were getting older; my mother had suffered a stroke and my aunt was in her 80s.

As a video professional and a broadcast journalist, I was used to interviewing people. In fact, over my career, I interviewed more than 35,000!

During the next hour, we talked about all the family history: Where they grew up, what their parents and grandparents were like, and what kind of crazy relatives did they encounter as kids?

We shared a lot of laughs, and I stored the videotape away.

A decade later, they’d both be gone, and then I remembered the tape.

As I rewatched that long-ago interview, it was like I was transported back in time to the holidays, where they’d jovially banter back and forth with the family stories.

I uploaded the video and shared a link to my family, where young and old alike were thrilled, both laughing and crying at this wonderful interview.

It was then that I realized every family should have these types of interviews. And over the past twenty years I have conducted numerous interviews for friends and honed in on what should be in these stories.

Now, I’m ready to add your family to my interview list.

The Lifetime Story is coming soon!
